TEAM RALLIES FOR WIN OVER CASSVILLE

The McDonald County 16U baseball team improved to 9-4 for the season by sweeping doubleheaders against Cassville and Seneca last week.

Against Cassville on June 14 at MCHS, McDonald County rallied for a 6-5 win after falling behind 5-0 in the first inning. The comeback included scoring the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Reece Cooper walked to start the seventh inning rally. He stole second and moved to third when Tray Black reached after striking out on a wild pitch. Joe Brown followed with a double to tie the game before Koby McAlister's two-out single drove in the winning run.

Ragan Bradley started on the mound for McDonald County, but Rendon Lane had to come in to get the final out of the first inning. Lane held Cassville scoreless on four hits over the next five innings to claim the win before Oakly Roessler worked a scoreless seventh.

McDonald County got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the third inning on a pair of singles by Black and David Roark. Micah Burkholder singled and scored on a ground out by Dylan Teague in the fourth to cut Cassville's lead to 5-3. McDonald County scored its fourth run in the sixth on an error, stolen base and Izak Johnson's RBI single.

McAlister had two singles to lead McDonald County's offense while Black, Roark, Burkholder, Johnson and Brown had one each.

In the five-inning nightcap, Roessler shut out Cassville through four innings before allowing a fifth-inning run to lead McDonald County to a 3-1 win. The sophomore right-hander struck out eight and walked four.

McDonald County scored all the runs Roessler would need in the bottom of the first. Roessler singled and scored on Johnson's single before a Cassville error allowed Johnson to score the second run of the inning.

McDonald County added an insurance run in the third on singles by Kameron Hopkins and McAlister.

McDonald County was held to just four hits, singles by Roessler, Johnson, Hopkins, and McAlister.

Seneca

Grant Cooper shut out Seneca on three hits to lead McDonald County to a 10-0 win on June 16 at MCHS. Cooper helped himself at the plate with two hits, while Roark and Roessler also had two hits. Burkholder, Hopkins, Teague and Bradley all had one hit. Teague, Hopkins and Johnson knocked in two runs each.

In the nightcap, Johnson got the win and led McDonald County to a 10-0 win.

Reece Cooper had a double and three RBIs while Hopkins had a double and knocked in two.

McDonald County was at Webb City on Tuesday before hosting Neosho on June 23. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
