Pineville Dealing With Sewerline Damage

Sewer line damage due to the recent flooding was discussed at the Pineville City Council meeting Tuesday.

Mayor Gregg Sweeten said several sewer lines were lost due to the flooding. It was decided that lines at the Kozy Kamp, which was badly flooded, are going to have to be repaired.

Alderman Scott Dennis, Public Works director Chris Tinsley and the mayor discussed issues regarding valve shutoffs of sewer lines and what actions to take when there is impending flooding. Tinsley said he would get estimates on the price to purchase valves.

Tinsley provided bids to the council regarding the cost of the variable frequency drive which controls the city's water-supply well. The three bids were in the amount of $14,300, $13,975 and $12,005. The council approved the bid in the amount of $12,005.

Tinsley said two pumps need to be purchased as well as a new control panel. Tinsley said the estimated costs are $4,092 for the pumps, $2,026 for the control panel, and $1,052 for the labor to install the pumps. This was approved by the council and the council noted that these costs will be reimbursed by FEMA.

The council also approved the repair up to $5,000 of station 2 with $2,875.96 for a pump and $1,483.32 for a control panel.

Tinsley said the sewer camera was shipped from Germany on Jan. 21 and should be received soon.

The council discussed banks in the area that will best serve Pineville. The council selected Cornerstone Bank in Pineville and will move accounts to Cornerstone.

Sweeten said a group of students came to Pineville from Missouri State University to work on the damages to the ball field. Sweeten said they did a great job and removed all the debris from the field.

Sweeten said there is a second house built in Pineville and there is a barbecue restaurant which will be opening sometime in April.

Sweeten said he put out bids regarding painting the interior of the community center. Alderman Scott Dennis recommended that semi-gloss paint be used.

Melissa Ziemianin, city clerk, noted that she and another City Hall office staff member will be going to their spring training meeting. There will be no cost. The council approved.

Chris Owens, city marshal, noted that paint work is needed throughout the marshals' building. Sweeten said this can be paid for internally.

Council members approved bills in the amount of $14,908.82.
