MCHS Freshmen Take Consolation Honors

The McDonald County High School freshman boys' basketball team took consolation honors at last week's Mount Vernon Freshman Basketball Tournament.

McDonald County lost its opener, 33-32, to Monett. Boston Dowd scored 10 points and Blake Gravette had nine to lead McDonald County. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Zack Woods with five points and Kirby Townsend and Dillon Aubrey with four points each.

McDonald County bounced back in the consolation bracket with a 25-22 win over Carl Junction keyed by Gravette's three-pointer at the buzzer. Gravette and Dowd scored nine points each while Aubrey had six and Woods one for the Mustangs' scoring.

The Mustangs closed out the tournament with a 39-30 win over Cassville. The Mustangs were led by Gravette with 18 points. Rounding out the scoring for McDonald County were Woods with eight points, Townsend six, Izak Johnson four, Dowd and Aubrey three each and Cris Monsalvo two.

McDonald County's next game is set for Feb. 15 at Lamar.
