Jr. High Basketball Teams Close Out Regular Season

The McDonald County seventh- and eighth-grade basketball teams closed out the regular season last week against Cassville and Webb City.

Against Cassville at home on Feb. 2, the eighth-grade A team dropped a 42-35 decision. McDonald County trailed 19-10 at halftime and 29-16 after three quarters before outscoring the Wildcats 19-13 in the fourth quarter.

Koby McAlister led the Mustangs with 16 points followed by Taeshaun Alik with seven, Keven Martinez six, Ben Mora four and Colliar Gottfried two.

In the B game, McDonald County outscored the Wildcats 4-1 in overtime to claim a 28-25 win. Bryan Trejo scored 12 points to lead the Mustangs while Sam Whitehill had seven, Garrett Spears four, Carlos Marcos and Tryston Leach two each and Oman Manuel one.

Webb City claimed a 49-26 decision in the A game on Feb. 4 at Webb City.

McDonald County scoring was as follows: Alik 12, Kameron Hopkins five, Martinez four, Mora and Gottfried two each and Keith Walker one.

The Cardinals added a 33-18 win in the B game. McDonald County scoring was as follows: Whitehill five, Marcos and Arturo Garcia four each, Leach three and Trejo two.

McDonald County began play in the Big 8 Conference on Feb. 6 with the finals set for later this week.

Seventh Grade

McDonald County jumped out to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and went on to claim a 46-36 win over Cassville in the seventh-grade A game. Chris Arrowood scored 14 points to lead McDonald County. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs were Logan Renner with nine points, Trent Alik eight, Carlos Sosa six, Jackson Clarkson five and Irael Marcos and Parker Harris two each.

The Mustangs added a 31-24 overtime win in the B game behind 18 points from Austin Manwiller. Also scoring for McDonald County were Clarkson with six points, Ethan Francisco three and Shadow Keeling and Bailey Lewis two each.

The A team lost 48-30 to Webb City. Scoring for McDonald County was as follows: Trent Alik nine, Clarkson eight, Arrowood five and Harris and Renner four each.

Webb City defeated McDonald County 40-2 in the B game. Manwiller had the Mustangs only points.

Joplin North defeated McDonald County's seventh-grade A team 40-27 on Feb. 5.

McDonald County scoring was as follows: Trent Alik eight, Clarkson and Arrowood five each, Harris four, Renner three and Sosa two.

In the B game, North claimed a 40-22 win. Scoring for the Mustangs was as follows: Manwiller 10, Francisco five, Sosa four and Lewis three.
