Free Tax Service Offered At SWC Senior Center

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance will be available at the Southwest City Senior Center from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, to provide free tax return preparation to those who rent or own and are aged 65 or older or disabled. Volunteers are able to prepare returns for the years 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Those who qualify will need to supply the following:

• Date of birth

• Phone number

• Proof of all income - SSA 1099 (Social Security statement), wages, interest, dividends, stock sales, election income, jury pay, etc.

• City and county tax receipts

• Paid property tax receipt.

Those who rent will also need a statement from the landlord denoting the amount of rent paid (excluding cable, Internet, etc.), the landlord's name, address, phone number and their tax ID number or Social Security number.

If income tax needs to be filed, property tax credit will be filed on the return rather than separately.

Federal housing no longer qualifies for this program.

Guests are invited to stick around and enjoy lunch and a Valentine's Day Celebration at the Senior Center. Lunch is provided at a cost of $3.50.
