Rhonda Jones of Main Sweets Bakery in Southwest City has been gearing up for her busiest time of year -- Valentine's Day.

From pink-iced sugar cookies to chocolate-dipped strawberries, Jones has been preparing plenty of goodies to keep her customers' sweeties satisfied.

Main Sweets Bakery is located inside Corner Cafe and More at 101 N. Main St. It moved there from Noel last year in late February, making this Jones' first Valentine's Day at Corner Cafe and More.

"It's been going really well," Jones said, noting she has plenty of customers in the area. "Valentines Day has always been one of our biggest times of the year. One year they were lined up at the door. It's always been a crazy time. Chocolate-dipped strawberries is definitely the top seller as far as what we sell at Valentine's Day."

The history of Main Sweets Bakery goes back almost 13 years. Jones had been working at Tyson in Noel for a number of years. She made birthday and wedding cakes for the employees on the side. In April 2003 she opened the location in Noel, and it stayed open until May 2015. Now she is in business with Cheryl Wetzel, owner of Corner Cafe and More.

"This was always her dream, to open a bakery-cafe," Jones said of Wetzel. "I've loved the transition over here. It's been awesome."

Wetzel has known Rhonda for several years.

"We've bought a lot of things from her. I thought her bakery would be a big, big asset. I think the bakery, building and the cafe complement each other. She's a big asset for Southwest City. Southwest City is trying to revitalize. There's a new NAPA (auto parts store), a new library. The bank did a face lift. We redid this building. It's a nice little town."

Wetzel also noted she and her husband, David, own Cornerstone Station in Southwest City. Jones' baked goods and chocolate-dipped strawberries are or sale there, as well as at Country Market grocery store in Pineville, she said.
