Jody Leak of Jane, Mo., filed her taxes early at H&R Block in Pineville and became one of the $1,000 winners of the H&R Block sweepstakes.
"There's more to celebrate this tax season," H&R Block says, "with the chance to win a grand in your hand!"
Tax season began Jan. 19, when the IRS began accepting individual electronic returns. Tax season may be considered as the gloom following the joyful Christmas season -- if you owe taxes. If you have a refund coming, tax season is welcome. Either way, it is an inevitable yearly event, but the chance to win $1,000 has made it more interesting.
Leak was presented with a $1,000 check at the H&R Block office at 504 Main St. in Pineville on Jan. 23, by Keith Taylor, tax associate manager.
"I'm going to pay off some bills with this and have fun with my 2-year-old son," Leak said. She was the first client to file taxes this tax season at H&R Block in Pineville.
H&R Block is giving away $1 million a day throughout the country for 32 days. One thousand people will win $1,000 each day in the first month of the tax season.
"This sweepstakes promotion came from our corporate office in Kansas City, Mo.," said Lynn Wilson, H&R franchise owner at the Pineville office. "This is the first time H&R Block has offered a sweepstakes such as this."
