Junior High Lady Mustangs Improve Record

The McDonald County eighth grade girls' basketball team went 2-1 last week to improve its season record to 9-2.

McDonald County opened the week with a 49-5 win over Joplin East on Nov. 29 in Joplin. Jersey Wolfenbarger scored 22 points and Kristin Penn added nine to lead the Lady Mustangs. Rounding out the scoring for McDonald County were Erin Cooper with five points, Caitlyn Barton four, Laney Wilson three and Lily Allman, Sydney Killion and Mollie Milleson two each.

The Lady Mustangs avenged a loss to Webb City last year with a 47-33 win on Dec. 1 at Pineville Junior High. McDonald County was led by Wolfenbarger with 23 points and Penn with 12. Other scoring for McDonald County were Allman and Killion four points each and Barton and Milleson two each.

Mount Vernon handed McDonald County a 50-37 loss on Dec. 2 in Mount Vernon to close out the week.

Scoring for McDonald County was as follows: Wolfenbarger 19, Penn seven, Barton four, Allman three and Wilson and Milleson two each.

McDonald County closes out its regular season at Monett on Dec. 8 before traveling to Mount Vernon next week for the Big 8 Tournament. Games begin at 5:30p.m.

Seventh Grade

The McDonald County seventh grade fell to 5-6 with three losses last week.

Joplin East claimed a 23-14 win. Scoring for McDonald County were Abigail Wiseman and Kloe Myers with five points each and Nicole Estrada and Adasyn Leach two points each.

Mount Vernon defeated the Lady Mustangs 43-8. Myers and Ebenee Munoz had three points each and Madison Grider had two for McDonald County.
