Pineville's New Water Tower Goes Out For Bids

In its Nov. 22 meeting, the Pineville City Council discussed the city's new water tower.

Mayor Gregg Sweeten announced the project is going out to bid and bids will be out until Jan. 5. The water tower will be a 380,000-gallon stem-pipe tank that will be 140-feet-tall and 21.5 feet in diameter. It will be located next to Pineville Primary School just north of the existing water tower.

Sweeten also announced that the council recently met with architecture students from the University of Arkansas regarding the possibility of designing some projects for the city. Sweeten said the city will submit four ideas to the students -- a splash pad, a recreation center, a river walk and landing at the end of Main Street, and a trail connection between Pineville and Anderson. The city will submit the ideas in hopes of having the students create concepts of what these things could look like, Sweeten said.

"We told (the students' advisor) we wanted to see these things happen in Pineville," he said.

Alderman Scott Dennis added, "These are real projects. These are not pie-in-the-sky things."

In other business, City Marshal Chris Owens told the council that officers had painted the inside of the marshal's office and that he had installed remote start and keyless entry in the Hummer. He said the department plans on using the Hummer as a rescue unit, because it has 37-inch tires and can go places ambulances can't go.
