Leanna Schlessman lit the altar candles. Liturgist Billie Benson welcomed us and led us in celebrating the birthday of Kristi Helm and the 53rd wedding anniversary of Bill and Sue Dyar.

Pastor Mark led in the morning prayer. Prayer concerns: J.T. who has viral meningitis; Annette, with cancer; Roger, heart valve replacement; Sherri moving to a new home; and Carol Cook, death of her brother-in-law.

Billie Benson read Ruth 1:1-22. This is the story of Ruth who, just when she thought she had everything going good for her -- she watched her life crumble around her. It was her daughter-in-law who stayed with her through thick and thin and helped her find happiness.

Twelve children gathered around Pastor Mark to discuss "Who Knows The Answer?" The children were asked to look at one another and decide who would most likely know the answer to a question about various topics. Sometimes when we go to a friend in search of the answer to a question or problem, they may not know the correct answer, and give an answer that leads in the wrong direction.

With the beginning of the new school year, our children and their parents will be faced with many questions. There will always be someone to give AN answer -- right or wrong -- often leading to bad decisions. As we face the "giant" presented this week, we were urged to be on guard for the giants that follow each of us and especially our children and youth, such as: too many expectations, fear of not being successful, feelings of being worthless, and actions of not caring about personal health or appearance.

Be there for our children and youth -- at home, at school, at church, and in the community. Be a fighter of giants for them.
