The McDonald County junior high seventh- and eighth-grade football teams closed out their 2015 season Oct. 15 when they hosted the Mount Vernon Mountaineers.

The Mustangs seventh grade dropped a 28-14 decision to finish the year with a 3-3 record.

McDonald County broke on top when Logan Renner scored on a 39-yard run after taking a pitch from quarterback Chris Arrowood. Arrowood ran for the two-point conversion to give McDonald County an early 8-0 lead.

But Mount Vernon ran off 22 straight points before Renner added a 67-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Mount Vernon iced the game with a 25-yard touchdown pass in fourth quarter.

The eighth-grade game was limited to just two quarters due to Mount Vernon having barely enough players to field a team.

Mount Vernon claimed a 14-12 "win" in the shortened game. Ben Mora hit Koby McAlister with a 70-yard touchdown pass in the first half and McAlister added a four-yard touchdown run in the second for the McDonald County scoring.

Counting the loss to Mount Vernon, the Mustang eighth-graders finished the season with a 1-5 record.
