McDonald County High School JROTC Battalion held a memorial service Saturday for PFC Chris Marion.

Marion graduated from McDonald County High School in 2005. Shortly after graduation, Chris fulfilled his dream of being a soldier by enlisting in the U.S. Army in Kansas City, Mo., in July 2005, where he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. He was deployed to Iraq.

On Feb. 22, 2006, he was killed in action while on patrol when his HMMWV (Humvee) was blown up by a roadside bomb.

The memorial service is held every year, during the first week of October, in honor of Chris Marion, his life, and his sacrifice for his country. Cadets of the McDonald County High School JROTC Battalion joined together to pay respect to PFC Marion, his sacrifice, and his family, to ensure his memory never fades away.

Attending this year's memorial service were Chris' parents, Velma and Walter Wood, as well as his siblings and other members of the Marion family, state Rep. Bill Lant, and Patriot Guard Riders including Ray Villa. Also attending were members of American Legion Post 392 -- Jim Kent, George Bilby, and Jim Leonard.

The McDonald County High School Mustang JROTC Booster Club provided breakfast for all those in attendance.
