Judge Wants Raise; Council Looking For Replacement

Mayor Gregg Sweeten opened the Pineville City Council meeting Sept. 22 addressing a request from the Johnson family to annex property at 62 and 96 Pleasant Ridge Road in Pineville.

Dawayne Lasiter was sworn in as board member of the Housing Authority for the city of Pineville.

Sweeten said there are certificates of deposit coming due. He said he called around to get the best interest rates. He said Cornerstone Bank offers the best three-year rate. The council agreed to go with the three-year rate with Cornerstone.

Sweeten said a letter was received from the city judge requesting that his salary be increased from $200 to $400 a month beginning in 2016. Sweeten and the council agreed to check for other candidates.

Sweeten addressed the council regarding the roof at City Hall. He said this will be a prevailing-wage job.

Sweeten obtained three bids for the roof: $48,500 from Aarons. The county will pay half. $50,800 from G3 Unlimited, and $60,181 from Cowen. Sweeten said more information is needed. The council agreed to table this until more information is obtained.

Sweeten said Simmons Foods, which has a plant at Southwest City, agreed to bring in 2,000 cases of chicken to be sold at the Oktoberfest on Oct. 3 at Pineville Square. Sweeten said $1 for every case will go to Southwest Missouri Trails.

Sweeten said 28 people were at the meeting with the architectural students from Drury University and residents of Pineville. He said a lot of good ideas were exchanged. He said the next meeting will be on Oct. 12.

Chris Tinsley, public works director, said he hasn't heard anything back about the logos for the trucks.

Tinsley said there are now six picnic tables and asked where they should be placed. Sweeten said they will all be needed for the Oktoberfest.

Tinsley said he would like to have a computer on which he would be able to record information about jobs completed and photos of the jobs. Sweeten was in agreement that Tinsley needs a program which will accomplish this.
