What Do You Want From Me, God?

Becky Johnson was celebrating a birthday as we gathered to worship on God's day at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Special prayers were requested for George Spurling, David Barton, Frankie Garvin, the Hill family, the Obenshain family, for the hunters and those traveling this week. We had a wonderful turnout for our Community Thanksgiving Dinner and Wayne thanked everyone for their help. Special thanks to Don Brackney Jr. and Carrie Edens for their help.

Linda Abercrombie led the congregational reading "Praise and Adoration" from Psalm 98. We were blessed with special music from Jerry and Linda Abercrombie who sang "In The Garden," and Wayne Johnson and Karen Gardner who sang "He Set Me Free" and "I Just Had to Pray." Wayne and Jerry served as ushers and collected the tithes and offerings.

Brother Mark Hall began God's message "What Do You Want From Me, God?" by reading Micah 6:6-8, which talks about coming before God with Thanksgiving and buying a little grace.

Brother Mark began by asking, "Ever had days when nothing goes right and you ask God, 'What do you want from me?' So much of the time when we give thought to God it is usually about what we want from God or we want to do a little trading with Him. We want to trade Him a little worship and good behavior for a blessing.

"We don't have anything God needs, but if we are His, there are things He wants from us. Outward giving doesn't show what's inside us. People may be impressed, but not God. Believers do things quietly. There are three things that show true devotion to God and that He expects. They are justice, mercy and humble obedience.

"We should mercifully forgive each other. If believers just always did what was right in God's name there would be no grudges, gossip or showy display. The mark of Christianity is not outdoing each other, but doing for each other. It's not just about what you give your neighbor, but how you treat him day in and day out. Christians are looked upon by others as to how they cheat, treat and show their superior attitudes. Remember when you weren't a Christian and how you viewed Christians.

"God wants everyone to be saved. How we treat people speaks volumes to them. You can have the biggest church, free giveaways and activities. You may get a big crowd, but did you save any lives. It still comes down to how you cheat, treat and our superior attitudes toward others."

Brother Mark continued by saying, "There are three people no one wants to listen to -- those that beat you out of a dollar, those that are rude to you and those that think they are better than you. If you want to be an effective soul winner, the three things God wants from you is to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God as it says in Micah 6:8. If we could just get those three things down, we could do God's work. But first you have to know Jesus to share Jesus. God is faithful no matter what happens."

In closing, Brother Mark asked, "What does God expect from us? Do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with Him. If we can do that, we would be what He wants us to do and be. Ask Him to help you do that."

Our hymn of invitation was "Near The Cross" and Wayne Holly gave the benediction. We invite you to worship with us on Sunday mornings at 11. Sunday school begins at 10. Mill Creek Baptist Church is located 3 1/2 miles east of Noel just off Highway 90 on Upper Mill Creek Road. Everyone is welcome.
