Sheep, Goat Footrot Detection, Prevention Program Set May 30

There will be a workshop on footrot detection and prevention in sheep and goats on Saturday, May 30 at Crowder College.

All area sheep or goat producers are invited to to attend the workshop. The registration is free. However, please register and inform us of a number of people attending by your ranch on/before May 25 by replying by email to [email protected] or call 573-681-5377 or write to Dr. Tumen Wuliji, 1220 Chestnut Street, Lincoln University, Jefferson City, MO 65102 in order for the workshop facility, venue, handouts and lunch (free) be prepared.

The following is a tentative schedule:

• 9 a.m. -- Registration

• 9:30 a.m. -- Footrot and hoof diseases of small ruminants -- Dr. Tumen Wuliji

• 10 a.m. -- Detection and prevention of footrot outbreak in sheep and goats -- Dr. Tumen Wuliji and Dr. Hasibagan Borjihan

• 10:30 a.m. -- Foot and hoof care, nutrition and grazing management of small ruminants -- Dr. Jodie Pennington

• 11 a.m. -- Animal health, welfare and medication in small ruminants -- Dr. Delinda Volskay

• 11:30 a.m. -- Hoof trimming, foot bathing, footrot diagnosis, control and management in small ruminants -- Jay Wilkins

• Lunch (free for all preregistered)

Afternoon Field Day (Demonstration and Participation)

• 12:30 p.m. -- Foot and hoof assessment scoring and trimming and footbath prep and bathing;

• 1:30 p.m. -- Footbath prep and bathing and foot and hoof assessment scoring and trimming.

These demo/hand-on practice could be done concurrently if there are more attendees/participants for one session.
