Walking The Walk

Gene Gardner greeted us on Mother's Day as we gathered to worship at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Justin Jarvis, Kade Jarvis and Ashley White were celebrating birthdays and special prayers were requested for Eileen's mother and sister, Wayne Johnson, Mildred and Bernie Cook and all the 2015 graduates. We thanked Jimmy Easter for his work on our church parade entries and he presented the church with the plaque for first place. Tom Sharp lead the congregation in our responsive reading, "Home and Family," in honor of our mothers and then we presented them with a gift. Karen Gardner and Becky Johnson led our song service as we sang "Precious Memories" and we enjoyed special music from Bob Obenshain, Wayne Johnson and Karen. Mitchell Lett asked God's blessing upon our tithes and offerings and he and Tyrel Lett served as ushers.

In honor of Mother's Day, Bro. Mark Hall talked about his mother, Mildred Hall, and the sacrifices she made for him. He said the greatest thing she told him was that she wouldn't always be here, but that she would be in heaven and that is why he shouldn't worry. Bro. Mark said, "Make sure your children know where you will be when you leave this earth. It will bring them comfort on their hardest day."

The text for Bro. Mark's message, "Walking the Walk and Overcoming Limitations," was taken from I John 2:6, "He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked." Bro. Mark began by asking "Did you ever want to be something, but limitations overcame you? Did you ever have to give up on a dream or desire because of too many obstacles? The American dream used to be to work hard and get rich, but there are all kinds of earthly limitations that keep you from achieving it. There are also spiritual limitations in our life. Getting saved is easy for some, hard for others. Why is it so hard to commit yourself to the things of Christ and not to the things of the world?"

Bro. Mark asked several to portray characters in a skit about knowing whether someone goes to hell or not. "You will know by the deeds. What is important is our day to day testimony, our witness, commitment and faithfulness to the Lord. How you walk day in and day out is your most important ministry. Your walk talks, your talk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks."

Bro. Mark referred to II Corinthians 4:1-3. "Everyone has a ministry. Since you do, you have to walk this walk and you have to live up to it. You are a representative of the King. People watch our walk. To the unsaved, they can't see the gospel. They watch our walk. The unsaved are blinded. How do we turn the light on? We must let our little light shine for the gospel and the glory of Jesus Christ. We don't preach ourselves, we preach Jesus Christ. There is a spotlight on us and we need to walk our walk like we ought to for Jesus Christ. People tell others they are saved and then never turn a tap for the Lord."

In closing, Bro. Mark asked, "Are you ready to let your light shine. The deck is stacked against a lot of people getting saved. People are watching our walk. Be accountable. Turn your light on and let is shine. You may be the only hope someone has to know Jesus Christ. Ask Jesus to help us walk like Him. The way we walk may be the only chance some may have of knowing Jesus. Lord, help us to walk that walk."

Our hymn of invitation was, "I Surrender All," and Wayne Johnson gave the benediction. We invite you to worship with us on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. Everyone is always welcome. Mill Creek is located three and a half miles east of Noel, just off Highway 90.
