Historical Society Receives Grant For Old Courthouse

Lynn Tatum, of the McDonald County Historical Society, met with the McDonald County Commission on Feb. 25 to inform the commission the Historical Society would be receiving a grant to have the upstairs of the Old Courthouse checked for structural soundness.

Tatum said the grant would also allow the Historical Society to look at removing the stucco on the exterior of the building and the restoration of the original brick exterior.

Also on the Feb. 25, the commission approved partial tire bids from Ozarko Tire Centers, of Springdale, Ark.; Cross Midwest Tire Co., of Duenweg; Allied Oil and Tire Company, of Joplin; Royer Tire, Inc., of Joplin; and Talley Tire, Inc., of Neosho.

Anderson Police Chief Donavon Pierson and Sheriff Mike Hall questioned the commission's funding of the Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force. The commission said the Task Force has been budgeted for the first half the year and they will review the funding after Prosecuting Attorney Bill Dobbs reviews the effectiveness of the Task Force during the first six months of the year.

Pierson and Hall both said there are several advantages to the Task Force that Dobbs might not see in his role as a prosecutor.

Jennifer Weber, County Collector, discussed the need for a drop box at the courthouse.

Jill Cornett, of the Harry S Truman Coordinating Council, met with the commission on Feb. 23, to give an overview of what programs the HSTCC has to offer the community.

Chris Young, Murphy Tractor in Springfield, discussed the county's purchase of road and bridge equipment as did Jerry Mullins, road and bridge foreman.

Paul Marshall, of Marshall Repair and Service Company, provided the commission of service prices.

Roger Coe met with David Holloway, Western Commissioner, regarding the grading of a county road.

A representative of Intrinsic Corp. spoke to the commission by phone to discuss the mapping system being used by the Assessor's Office. A meeting was set for March 25.
