Audit Shows Goodman In Good Shape

After hearing an update of the progress in cleaning up the Kramburg property in town, the Goodman City Council gave the family an additional 90 days to finish the work.

The extension was made during June 16's council meeting.

Mayor Greg Richmond acknowledged Lester Kramburg who had been requested to appear before the Council regarding the state of disarray of the Kramburg property.

Richmond pointed out that there are three different properties the Board is concerned about and needs to know when these properties will be cleaned up. He noted that one trailer has been unoccupied for the last 25 years.

Alderman Wilson added that the main concern is the brush and junk and the washer and dryer outside on the property.

Leslie Franks, also present at the council meeting, said the family had been working on one trailer. Wilson stated that the concern was not the empty buildings but that the lots need to be cleaned up.

Kramburg said the cleanup will take awhile. Franks said they will get to the cleanup and the reason why it has taken so long is because they have been sick.

Richmond responded that the property has been in an unkept state for years and it isn't fair to the neighbors for the Kramburg property not to be kept up and mowed.

Old Business

Nick Myers provided the board with the 2014 Audit Report and went over it with them and explained the spreadsheets and forms. Myers said the overall audit reflected that the city is in good shape; but he wants the board to realize that there is not enough money in the water and sewer department for future repairs or new equipment.

Myers pointed out that the board should be aware that the grant funding from the state and the federal government is never guaranteed and they should be making provisions to put aside enough money to help with the costs.

Myers stated that after completing the 2015 audit next year, officials will be able to compare and see if the board is collecting enough for major repairs and replacements.

Recommendations from Myers this year are to look for ways to segregate duties, which safeguards the city from any chance of fraud or mismanagement of funds.

Department Heads

Police Chief Curt Drake noted that the power steering on the Expedition has been repaired but now needs to be aligned. He also stated that the air conditioning pump is going out. Drake said Smith Auto Group can fix the power steering for $375 and align the car for $70 or $80.

The board approved up to $500 for repairs of the Expedition.

David Brodie, city supervisor, reported that one of the pumps at the treatment plant is no longer fixable. He said that this is one of the original pumps remaining since the treatment plant was built and has been repaired three times. Brodie said the standby pump is now being used.

Brodie said he has been checking on prices for a replacement pump.

Alderman Wilson requested that the Board approve $4,500 for a new pump. All on the Board approved of this expenditure.

Brodie noted that the summer ball tournament will start on June 19. He said David Sarratt will spray for mosquitoes for the tournament.

Paula Brodie asked the Board if the city of Goodman can observe July 4 on Friday July 3. The Board agreed that the city will observe the holiday July 3.
