SWC Library Offering Food Preservation Program

Food preservation is becoming more popular than it has been in many decades. Many families are choosing to live the "old way." Grandma's cures, cooking, and sewing, and Grandpa's hunting, skinning and smoking are becoming commonplace in areas across the country. After decades of store-bought living, families have decided the old- fashioned ways are best and have adapted many of those skills for themselves and/or their families.

Melinda Crawley of the Maysville Extension Homemaker's Club will be sharing her knowledge of preserving foods and herbs by drying and dehydration. She has won many awards for her homemaking talents including the art of food preservation. Canning is what many think of when they hear of food preservation, but that is not the only way to preserve food. There is freezing, smoking, pickling, and this class's feature: drying.

The class will be held in the community room of the Southwest City Library. It is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 21. There is no charge for the program.
