How Can God Help You Today?

Liturgist Dan Trimble welcomed the congregation and guests for worship, and introduced Pastor Mark Kailbourn. Pastor Mark begins his service this week to the Pineville, Noel, and Southwest City Methodist churches. Mark introduced his wife Dee and son Mark, and gave a brief summary of his journey as a Pastor.

The congregation shared in a time of fellowship, and Emily Thornton and Zoe Thornton lit the altar candles as Linda Hybl played the "Laura Story" song "Blessings" for the prelude to worship.

The hymns "Seek Ye First" and "I Stand Amazed In The Presence" were sung, accompanied by Linda on the Clavinova and the orchestra.

Joys were shared for the successful rummage sale for the benefit of the daycare, for Bob and Kolleen Howard and granddaughter as guests in the congregation today, and by Dawn Stauber for daughter April Denney's pregnancy. Prayers were requested for Cody Quinn, Helen Russo, Dan Trimble's daughter Taylor, for Opal Hatfield's sister, and Opal's nephew Gary Cook, and Helen with the Clothes Closet in Anderson. Prayer was requested for safe travels for our youth. Pastor Mark led the congregation in prayer.

Dan read the scripture lesson, from Joshua 10:8-13.

The music special was Matt Redman's "10,000 Reasons," sung by the adult choir, and directed by Linda Hybl.

Mark's children's message was about Jesus' lesson to his disciples from the scripture in Matthew 19:14. Jesus rebuked his disciples for trying to keep small children away from him. Children are important to the church and represent the future of our congregation. We all have a purpose for God, and our children are just as important as adults.

Mark's message to the congregation was an enthusiastic description of the scripture lesson in Joshua. Because of Joshua's prayer and faith, God stopped the sun for Joshua to win victory over their enemies. Mark said that we serve a risen Savior who can do great things that are considered impossible, and we should be praying about where God wants the sun to stop for us today. We have a purpose as a congregation to serve our communities, to bring the word of God to those that have not heard, and to be working to make disciples for Christ.

The congregation sang "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus," and Mark gave his benediction to close the worship service.
