Council Approves Addition Of Light Bars On Patrol Vehicles

Acting Pineville marshal Chris Owens told City Council members it will cost $2,180 to put light bars on the city's two patrol vehicles. The council met June 23.

Owens said push bumpers for the marshal vehicles are also needed and he has researched and found there is a business in Neosho that installs them.

He also said graphics need to be added to marshal vehicles so all will match and be uniform.

The council approved spending the money for two light bars.

Owens noted that two more part-time marshals are needed to make sure there is 24-hour coverage and double coverage on weekends and that a larger pool of people is needed who can be called upon when help is needed.

Mayor Gregg Sweeten responded that there is a budget for this which Owens has the authority to use as he sees fit.

Sweeten acknowledged Owens and thanked him for a recent river rescue, noting that Owens sacrificed his own pickup truck which became flooded with water during the rescue.

Sweeten said five people are needed on the Planning Commission. Sweeten tabled discussion of the Planning Commission which will be discussed at the next council meeting.

Sweeten noted that he will be talking to a developer who may be bringing some investors to the Pineville area who want to build some apartments in the area. Sweeten said he thinks they are serious about buying properties near Pineville and that this will be good for the city.

Chris Tinsley, public works director, discussed the sewer plant project with the council. Tinsley said he would be fixing some leaks the day following the council meeting.

Mayor Sweeten noted that two people have resigned from the Housing Board and that those positions need to be filled. Sweeten asked the council if anyone knew of anyone who may be interested.

Sweeten said he will talk to those people who are interested. The council agreed to table this discussion until the next council meeting.

Sweeten acknowledged CPA Nick Myers, who provided the 2014 Audit Report. Myers went over the audit, explaining the main points to the council.

The audit was accepted and signed off by the council.

The council discussed and approved bills, including transfers in the amount of $31,247.22.
