Carthage Rallies Past MCHS In Second Half

The Carthage Tigers outscored McDonald County 19-13 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 54-50 win Tuesday night at Carthage High School.

McDonald County took a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and built a 13 point advantage midway through the second quarter before Carthage rallied to cut the margin to 26-20 at halftime.

"We finally put everything together and had a stretch in the second quarter when we started clicking both offensively and defensively," said coach Trent Barratt. "Their perimeter shooting kept them in the game in the second quarter and eventually won it for them."

McDonald County's Daton Aubrey led all scorers with 21 points while Max Dill added eight points and Drew Harmon had seven. Rounding out the scoring for McDonald County were Jake Wood with six points, Kole Keith four, Damian Monsalvo three and Austin Grotts one.

Cole Orscheln scored 17 points and Alex Derryberry 14 to lead Carthage.

McDonald County falls to 8-8 overall, 1-1 in the Big 8 Conference, entering its Jan. 30 Big 8 Conference game at home against Seneca. The Mustangs travel to Neosho Jan. 31 for a non-conference contest.
