Following a discussion, the council passed an ordinance to conduct background checks for city employment and firefighters.

Sweeten said the background checks, including finger printing, will cost approximately $25-$35 per person and will be conducted by the McDonald County Sheriff Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Electronic tablets were obtained for each member of the council and were set up for use for the first time. Sweeten said they still need to have access to WiFi.

Sweeten led a discussion regarding the dropping of ticket revenues by the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Council. Sweeten and the council were concerned how this will affect small towns in Missouri. The mayor said he will be attending Missouri Municipal League training which will consist of information about new state laws regarding revenue collected from tickets.

Departmental Reporting

Tinsley said the Department of Natural Resources is coming Jan. 21 to check the water systems. He said there are a lot of new regulations and "we have not been out of compliance and we are going through the permit process now."

Sweeten said the new Dollar Store in Pineville will be completed sometime in February.

Melissa Ziemianin, city clerk, received approval for city clerk training which will take place at Jefferson City. Ziemianin said the issue of updating building codes will be placed in packets for the next council meeting.

Sweeten said buildings in the city which are unattended and in bad shape need to be dealt with. Ziemianin said complaints have been received about some of these buildings and that the owners of these buildings will be getting letters directing them to clean up the buildings. An abatement to clean up these buildings was unanimously approved.
