Heart Of America Dairy Expo Set For Jan 22-24

The third annual Heart of America Dairy Expo, presented by Hiland Dairy Foods,will be held Jan. 22-24 at the Ramada Oasis Hotel and Convention Center in Springfield, Mo.

"With a sold out trade show and a bevy of national dairy speakers, our Expo offers something for everyone in the region," said Larry Purdom, of Purdy, Expo chairman and dairy farmer. "We kick off Thursday evening January 22 at 6 p.m. with a grand opening including a buffet dinner and an early bird seminar featuring Ryan Yonkman from Rice Dairy of Chicago. Yonkman will share a dairy market outlook and the introduction of Vault which is a comprehensive analytic software that utilizes dairy data to create detailed two year projections.

Purdom said thanks to the many sponsors, registration is free for dairy farmers and their families with a nominal registration fee for allied industry representatives. All dairy farmers and allied industry are invited to attend.

Friday's morning program includes:

• "Stop, Look and Listen"-- More than Just Getting the Chores Done" with Tom Lorenzen, sponsored by Alltech;

• "2=5, Treating Mastitis Effectively with Fewer Antibiotic Does" with Dr. Brent Cousin, DVM, DACT, sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim;

• "How to Reduce Costly Calf Hood Disease through Immune Support" with Dr. Dan Tracy, DVM MS, sponsored by Multimin USA;

At Friday noon, attendees will enjoy a pork chop luncheon sponsored by Hiland Dairy Foods Company, Missouri Pork Association, Missouri Soybeans, Quality Liquid Feeds and S&L Sales, Inc.

Andy Vance will give the keynote address following lunch with the "Future of American Agriculture: Potential and Pressure" sponsored by Central Life Sciences.

Friday's afternoon program includes:

• "Evaluating your Risk Management Options" with a panel of dairy farmers sponsored by Missouri Soybeans and your soybean checkoff;

• "A Path Forward -- The Potential of Dairy's Future in the Midwest" with another panel sponsored by the Midwest Dairy Association.

• The 30th annual meeting of the Missouri Dairy Association.

The Missouri Holstein Association will conduct an Internet cattle sale in the trade show on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. which concludes Friday's educational programming.

On Saturday, the various dairy breed organizations will have their open board meetings and annual meetings followed by lunch at noon sponsored by the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives and the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council. One highpoint of the day will be the 100th anniversary celebration of the Missouri Holstein Association.
