Birthday Tribute To 145-Year-Old Grandmother

The congregation and guests were blessed with a wonderful performance by the McDonald County Youth Choir. Director Amber Nelson led the youth in the singing of several uplifting and spirited songs. Among the selections were Natalie Sleeth's, "Long Time Ago," "Greater," by Mercy Me, "Ten Thousand Reasons," by Matt Redman, and "I Will Follow Him," from the soundtrack to the movie "Sister Act." The group finished their performance with "One Nation," a moving tribute to military veterans and all those currently serving our country.

Dan Trimble, liturgist, greeted the congregation and gave the announcements for the week. The church directory is being updated, with photograph sessions scheduled for March 1, 8, and 15. Contact Lin Stuart at [email protected] to schedule your time or if you have questions.

Lenten Bible study schedule is Pineville UMC at 11 a.m. on Mondays, Noel UMC at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, and Southwest City UMC at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays.

Jim Stauber gave a 145th birthday tribute to his grandmother, Caroline Avery Stauber, born Feb. 21, 1870. Caroline was a charter member of the Noel United Methodist Church, founded in 1890. Retired Col. Rose Stauber, of Grove, Okla., her granddaughter, was also in attendance. Other descendants of Caroline Avery Stauber in the congregation were two great-grandsons, a great-great granddaughter and six great-great-great grandchildren.

Zoe Parish and Lily Allman lit the altar candles as Patti Carroll played the prelude to worship.

Joys were shared for the act of love of washing feet as Jesus did. Prayer requests were made for Debbie Powell, Marilee Todd, Nolan McFadden, Joanne Walker, Randy Cornell, Beth Carr's cousin in Owasso, Faye Davis' family member Lacy, and Megan. Pastor Mary Lou Toft led the congregation in prayer.

Dan read the Scripture lesson, Luke 2:41-52.

Mary Lou's message to the congregation on the scripture lesson was how Jesus as a young boy spent three days in the temple listening to the teachers and asking questions. His parents were frantic when they could not find him, and he said to them, "Why did you need to search, didn't you know I must be in my Father's house?" After this, Jesus was obedient to his parents.

The congregation sang "Jesus Loves Me," followed by Mary Lou's benediction to close the worship service.

You are welcome at worship services, Sunday's at Pineville UMC 9:30 a.m., Noel UMC 11 a.m. and Southwest City UMC at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Mary Lou Toft can be reached at 816-729-6767 and [email protected] or visit Noel MO United Methodist Church on Facebook.
