Every school year the Ag 1 students attend the Area 11 Greenhand Conference at Crowder College, followed by a tour of the National Fish Hatchery in Neosho.

All Ag Science 1 classes traveled to Crowder in the morning on Sept. 23. When they got there they were given a colored mark on their hand. They all get together with the surrounding Ag 1 students throughout the area and were given opening ceremonies by the area officer team.

They then divided into groups of their corresponding colored mark they received when they arrived. Each group was informed about the ins and outs of Supervised Agricultural Events and Career Development Events by the members of the area officer team. The officers described the difference between them and the importance of understanding their significance.

After the conference, the McDonald County students ate lunch and made their way to the National Fish Hatchery. At the hatchery the students were given a tour of the recently reconstructed facility. The new facility is energy efficient and constructed with new techniques in energy conservation.

The students were given the opportunity to see various prehistoric fish found in Missouri rivers and see how the hatching process works. The Ag advisers were very pleased with their students and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on the McDonald County FFA chapter in the following years.
