Anderson Council Eyes Water, Street Improvements

The Anderson City Council agreed to look into making improvements to the city's water system and to three city streets at the council's Feb. 17 meeting.

The council approved funding an engineering study for a water system improvement project in the Sycamore, Mill and Beaver Street area. The cost of the engineering study is estimated to be $3,000 to $5,000.

If the council decides to install a new line from the area back to a city well, the project would be a "couple of thousand feet."

Also discussed was improving water service on the south of side of town. Mayor John Sellers said a three-quarter inch line needs to be replaced. The council agreed to see about doing a temporary two-inch replacement until a six-inch or bigger line can be installed.

Bids for street improvements on Cedar Street, Anderson Street and Industrial Park Drive will be sought. Sellers said Industrial Park Drive will be the most costly due to the road needing widening and thicker asphalt to handle truck traffic.

The council agreed not to renew a certificate of deposit in the amount of about $11,000 to help fund the street projects.

The council approved a bid of $9,500 for demolishing one of two structures that was once Harnar's Boarding Home if a prospective buyer does not begin restoration in the next 30 days (See story on 1A).

Bills in the amount of $76,938.77.
