Facing Giants, Part 3

We began our fellowship time at 8:45 with a breakfast prepared by Jeanne and Marion Mitchell, and Hugh Keller.

We began our worship time with Leanna Schlessman bringing in the light for the altar candles. Billie Benson, liturgist led us in celebrating birthdays of Jo Pearcy and Dennis Kirk.

Announcements: A pastor-led Bible Study on Thursday evenings begins Sept. 10; a new Sunday School class for pre-school children with their parents will begin on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 10:45; the opportunity to serve during October Fest on Oct. 3. Call Pastor Mark for additional information.

Billie led in call to worship and we sang together, "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee."

Pastor led prayer lifting up the Staib family, Frazier family, residents in care centers, leaders of our country, our service men and women, all those affected by the Western wildfires as well as the firefighters who battle those blazes.

Pastor Mark continued his series on Facing Giants. Today was the third sermon, this one dealing with the Giant of conformity. He based his message on Matthew 6:25-34, read by Carla Kirk. His sermon to the children was fun and the message was not lost on the adults! He encouraged all who were listening, to ask ourselves: "who controls us?" Do we look for assurance that we are "okay" from other people (the world) or from God. It is up to parents to set the example of how to live. We do that every moment of every day. If we want our children to become God-fearing, God-loving adults, we will be more likely to see that happen if we are faithfully attending church WITH our children, leading by example. Do we ever change our actions, beliefs, goals, to "fit in" with another person's lifestyle?

We look forward to seeing you in worship next week.
