Pineville Council Approves Costs To Vent New Cook Shack

Major Gregg Sweeten opened the April 14 Pineville City Council meeting with a public hearing regarding annexation of the Marvin Mericle property into the city limits of Pineville, which was approved by the council.

Ann Crowder-Sanders was sworn in to the Southward Alderman and Jeff Slish was sworn in to the Northward Alderman position following their re-election. Both Crowder-Sanders and Slish have served Pineville for several years.

New Business

Sweeten noted a letter he received from Alberta Anders requesting a sign be placed on Oak Street identifying it as "Not A Through Street." The council were all in favor of the sign being placed at the requested area.

Commercial building costs relative to building permits, inspection, water and sewer fees regarding the city of Pineville were discussed. Sweeten asked if a reduction in fees in the amount of $2.75 per $1,000 valuation for building permits would be agreeable to the council, which was approved unanimously.

Sweeten said he has discussed the need for backhoe forks with Chris Tinsley, public works director, since there is no way to lift heavy items. The council approved of $1,000 being spent for the forks.

Carson Adamson, owner of Shady Beach Campground, addressed the council asking the city to share the cost of a fence at his Pineville campground. The board approved the cost of approximately $250.

Sweeten addressed a venting problem at the cook shack. He said when it was built, the building was not vented and smoke is causing a problem. Sweeten said costs to fix this have been researched and it was found that it will cost approximately $1,800 to fix the venting problem.

Old Business

The council discussed the Community Building User Agreement and the board approved raising the rates by $10. For 1 to 4 hours of use, the fee went up from $50 to $60; 5 to 8 hours was increased from $75 to $85; and for over 9 hours it was increased from $100 to $110.

Tinsley provided an estimate for the expense of curb and gutter work in the amounts of $3,470.

Departments

Melissa Ziemianin, city clerk, will be attending a meeting in Lamar which will be a discussion of municipal laws that will affect municipalities.

Tinsley discussed the water loss problem and the installation of new water meters.

The council discussed and approved bills, including transfers, in the amount of $51,258.82.
