A citywide cleanup in the city of Noel will be held April 24 through May 3.

The city is asking all residents to help keep Noel clean by cleaning your property and disposing of trash and junk. Dumpsters will be placed by city hall for all trash and other items to be discarded.

Tires and hazardous materials may not be thrown in any of the dumpsters.

"We welcome volunteers to pick up items and drop them off at the city hall," said Mayor John Lafley. "Volunteers are also welcome at the Noel Recycling Center."

Lafley said there are separate roll off bins for different items. There are bins for old washing machines, refrigerators, computers, televisions, etc. He said items are separated after they are dropped off.

The elderly or disabled can call 475-6231 or 475-3696 if help is needed to pick up items.

The cleanup is organized by the Noel Cleanup Committee. Members include Carrie Edens, Shannon Gravette, Wendy Collins, Faye Davis, Lewis Davis, Robin Davis, Steve Powell and Debbie Powell.

"This city-wide clean up happens every year in the springtime," Lafley said. "After the clean-up ends, city staff will check the entire city and those residents leaving junk and trash in their yards will be issued a warning, then if the items are still not discarded, a ticket will be issued to the residents who have not complied."

All cardboard and plastic containers can be taken to the recycling center, located at 801 South Kings Highway.

"We went to the county commission to get the whole county involved," Lafley said of the recycling program. "David Milligan is the head of the cleanup for the whole county. There are several drop off points throughout the county, including the campgrounds. There is also an 'Adopt the Road Project' which is available throughout the county."

Lafley said there will be a tire drop off at a later date which will be published in the newspaper and on the city hall Facebook page.
