A Noel man who was stabbed in the abdomen is recovering at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin and the man accused of doing the stabbing is in custody, according to McDonald County Sheriff Mike Hall.

Hall said that Stavin Hadley, of Noel, was transported to the hospital by helicopter Sept. 14 after he was stabbed at a residence on Highway 59, just north of Noel.

Hall said that after deputies processed the scene where the incident occurred, they were able to determine the suspect was Alberto Burgos. He said a warrant was issued for Burgos' arrest and he was captured at about 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 at a different residence just outside of Noel.

Burgos, 23, has been charged with first degree assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest by fleeing by McDonald County Prosecuting Attorney Jonathan Pierce. A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for Sept. 24.

According to a probable cause statement by McDonald County Deputy Travis Horn, Burgos "caused serious physical injuries to Stavin Hadley with a knife. Alberto stabbed Stavin in the abdomen with a four-inch-long bladed knife causing an inch and a half laceration. Stavin was taken to Freeman West by helicopter due to not knowing how deep the knife wound is."

A second probable cause statement addresses the resisting arrest by fleeing charge. Deputy Cody Sutherland said Burgos "fled out the back door of his mother's residence, fleeing and hiding from deputies, knowing the deputies were there to serve a felony arrest warrant on him."

Hall said Hadley was interviewed Monday at the hospital where he was stable, alert and able to talk.
