Lady Mustangs Cruise Past Cassville

The McDonald County Lady Mustangs had no problem with Big 8 Conference rival Cassville Monday night at McDonald County High School.

The Lady Mustangs won in straight sets, taking the first game 25-19 before cruising to a 25-16 win in the second.

"We are excited to get another conference win," said coach Kacha Kuhn. "I thought our middle hitters and blockers (Lindsey Limore and Becca Rickett) both had good games."

McDonald County built a 21-13 lead in the first game before Cassville rallied to cut the margin to 21-18 with five straight points. The Lady Mustangs then scored four of the next five points for the win.

In the second game, McDonald County trailed 7-5 before Destiny Arnall served for eight consecutive points to give the Lady Mustangs a 13-7 lead. McDonald County went on to take nine of the next 11 points to build a 22-10 on the way to the easy win.

Arnall finished with 10 service points, including three aces, nine digs and 13 assists to lead McDonald County. Limore added five kills while Preslea Reece had seven. Brittney Stone added three aces and Lauren Goff had seven digs.

McDonald County improves to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference heading into it's Sept. 17 match at Neosho. The Lady Mustangs return home tonight to face College Heights.

Junior Varsity

McDonald County made it a clean sweep of the three matches by taking the junior varsity and freshman matches, both in three sets. McDonald County claimed a 25-21, 17-25, 25-7 win in the junior varsity contest and added an 18-25, 30-28, 25-23 win by the freshmen.

Carl Junction

The Carl Junction Lady Dawgs, coming off last year's second place finish at state, pulled away late in both games to claim a 25-18, 25-16 win Sept. 11 at McDonald County High School.

Carl Junction led 18-16 in the second game before scoring the final seven points for the win and to close out the match.

Reece had nine kills while Arnall added five service points and 12 assists to lead the Lady Mustangs. Stone finished with four kills.

Carl Junction also claimed straight set wins in the junior varsity and freshman matches. The Lady Dawgs won the the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-8 and defeated the McDonald County freshmen 25-19, 25-13.
