Be As responsible To God As You Are To Everything Else

We welcomed visitors and Gene read a thank you note from the McDonald County senior citizens as we gathered to worship Sunday at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Linda Jarvis celebrated a birthday last week and special prayers were requested for the Jeff Todd family, Kimberly, Jimmy Easter, Mildred Sharp, Kathy Johnson, Bob Obenshain and J.J. We will hold a business meeting the last Sunday evening of the month at 6 p.m. and Kitty reminded everyone to sign up for the updated church directory. Karen and Becky led our song service with special music from Bob Obenshain. Gene and Wayne collected our offertory.

Bro. Mark Hall brought God's message for us in his sermon, "Who Is Sufficient," a message about responsibility. He began by defining sin as anything contrary to what God says in the Bible and asked, "What do you believe the most common sin is in the modern church?" Bro. Mark referred to 2 Timothy 2:15 and 3:16-17 and told us that we don't study the Bible like we should. Text for the sermon was from II Corinthians 2:14-17.

He began the message by saying that sometimes in life it seems that we are in a tug of war and we are the rope being tugged in more than two directions. "How we prioritize our responsibilities has to do with the quality of our life. The biggest problem in our country today is the lack of personal responsibility. We are a whole nation of people who pass the buck and dodge responsibility because we all have an excuse for our problems. Be a witness of how good God is to you." Bro. Mark talked of men he had known who were men of the church and men of responsibility who had their priorities in order.

"Some think when it comes to God, any old excuse is good. When Christians stop coming to God's house, how does the house stay open. Who does the work at church when there are stay-at-home Christians? Be as responsible to God as you are everything else. Keep your word to God. Today every boy wants to be a man and men want to act like boys." The Bible tells us to put away childish things. "The biggest problems are in our thoughts." Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established." Bro. Mark told us "When you are busy working for the Lord, He will take care of your thoughts. Before you can lead others to Jesus, you must know Him yourself. Knowing Jesus is more than saying 'see you in Heaven.' It is a lifetime commitment. Are you guarding what is committed to your trust? Have you ever been called in for an evaluation on your job? What if God called you in for an evaluation? How would your excuses hold up? How would you fare in your evaluation with God? In the last 20 years, we have made church to serve man. Church is for man to serve God. It is not just a place to go to be happy. We have forgotten it was built to serve Him. What responsibility has God given you today? Someday we will stand before God and give an account of what we have done for Him. All of the things that seem so important to us now will fade then. Who is sufficient? Are we sufficient? Are we serving God or wanting to be served?" We must get our priorities in order.

Our hymn of invitation was "Living for Jesus" and Gene Gardner gave the benediction.

We invite you to worship and fellowship with us as Bro. Mark Hall brings us God's word to apply to our lives. Worship service begins at 11 a.m. and Sunday school at 10 a.m. We welcome everyone to God's house to worship with us. Mill Creek is located 3.5 miles east of Noel just off Highway 90 on Upper Mill Creek Road. Come see what you are missing.
