Religion Is Man Reaching Up To God

Sunday was an exciting day in so many ways. We began worship service with THE gospel bluegrass group, the Greer Singers as they brought us "I Take Him Back" and "Any Day Now" and "Even In the Valley."

What a wonderful way to begin our services. Prayers were offered for many of our church family. We prayed for Jennifer Alpizar, for Dennis Pope, for Christina Penn, for Elaine Tillman and many others.

All are reminded the pantry is available. If anyone knows of needs, please contact Bobby and/or Kenny Bowers.

We celebrated with Shawnia Baker as she was baptized and welcomed into our family Dorothy Shoptow.

Dr. Larry Crawford's very moving message was brought to us from Genesis 4. "If thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door." He emphasized that sacrifices in themselves are to be what they are because if you add works you pollute with your good works. He talked about that Caine had the curse of sin in his life and turned out to be a murderer. Prior to that Caine lived in a world when there was no wrong and yet he sinned. Religion is man reaching up to God and Christianity is God reaching down to man and God has long arms.

It was good to be in the Lord's house and share a potluck and later the concert in the afternoon. All are reminded to be prepared for Bro. Harold's camera next week if you want to update your picture or information for the church directory.

Sunday night, July 27, through Thursday night, July 31, our Vacation Bible School will be from 6 to 8:15 p.m. Also, teenager camping trip (see Brother Ryan for details) will be Friday, Aug. 1, through Saturday afternoon Aug. 2.
