LYNN ATKINS SPECIAL TO MCDONALD COUNTY PRESS Although the menu now includes Mexican specialties, the inside of Sunrise Cafecito looks a lot like it did when it was the Macadoodles Market. The business, south of Jane near the state line, has new owners.

The menu expanded when Angel and Angie Garcia took over the cafe next to Macadoodles south of Jane, although the business and even the employees look the same.

The former Macadoodles Market is now Sunrise Cafecita.

Burgers are still the most popular item, manager Faith Shultz said, but the new Mexican food is gaining popularity. Tacos and enchiladas have joined hamburgers, hot dogs and grilled cheese sandwiches on the menu.

Angie Garcia said she's looking forward to introducing even more items.

"We have more variety now and some authentic Mexican food," she said. "But we still have hamburgers and ribs, the biscuits and gravy. We don't have the fried chicken."

At breakfast, huevos rancheros is gaining on the traditional bacon and eggs, Shultz said. Huevos rancheros is a traditional Mexican breakfast with fried eggs served on corn tortillas with a tomato chili sauce.

In addition, the cook offers specials about every other day.

The Garcias have always dreamed of opening a restaurant, she said, although they haven't been in the food service business before. When they heard about the opportunity to lease the space from Macadoodles, they jumped at the chance.

They also operate a small convenience store in the same building.

"We're pretty happy," Angie Garcia said.

Sunrise Cafecita is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.

The phone number is 417-226-4696.
