Dollar General Coming To Pineville

The fifth Dollar General Store in McDonald County will soon be constructed in Pineville. It will be located on a plot just west of Business Highway 71 and south of Route H, according to Mayor Gregg Sweeten.

There are already Dollar General Stores in Anderson Goodman, Southwest City and Noel.

Sweeten said a representative of the engineering firm that manages more than 500 Dollar General Stores asked for permission to proceed with construction at the July 8 meeting. He said no exact timetable was announced for construction to begin, but said he was told that from groundbreaking to completion could be in as little a time as one month.

Eight to 10 employees are expected to be hired, with a local manager taking over after company training, Sweeten said. Hours should be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and, in a change from normal Dollar General building practices, construction is to include some rock work to blend into the area.

A vote on a proposition raised by Alderman Scott Dennis to have a prayer before each meeting was approved, but not until a split vote that produced a tie was settled.

Sweeten said he broke the tie in favor of saying a prayer before each meeting, in accordance with the motion placed by Dennis who, along with Alderman Jack Williams, voted in favor of the move. Aldermen Jim Gray and Ann Kresyman voted against it, Sweeten reported.

The council also approved the addition of parts of two city streets to the list of paving projects. Sweeten said that Clay and Thompson streets will get some work along with those previously approved.
