MCHS Freshman Wins Title At C.J. Classic

Freshman Jakob Gerow shut out Carthage's Nick Norbury 9-0 to win the championship of the 106 pound weight class at the C.J. Classic held Saturday at Carl Junction High School.

Gerow's title was the only first place finish for McDonald County.

Carthage won the team trophy with 251.5 points followed by Monett with 235, Seneca 180, Webb City 144, McDonald County 143.5, Carl Junction 137.5, Nevada 105, Cherryvale, Kan. 46, Diamond 20, and Labette County, Kan. 18.

Daniel DeSantiago was the Mustangs' only other wrestler in a championship match. DeSantiago fell behind 2-0 in the first period to Dakota Jones, of Carthage, and ended up dropping a 4-2 decision to settle for second place.

Josh Kinser, who took first at last week's Neosho tournament, lost a one-point decision to Jaron Beeson, of Monett, in the semifinals at 145 pounds before pinning Alex Smith, of Labette County, for third place.

Taking fourth place for McDonald County were Keaton Weber (132 pounds), Truman Craig (138 pounds) and Bronnie Kinser (285 pounds). Kinser sustained knee injury after his second match and was forced to injury default his final two matches.

Other results for McDonald County were Landin Foreman 1-2 (126 pounds), Christian Willman 1-2 (126 pounds), Nathan Knadle 1-2 (132 pounds), Isrrael De Santiago 2-2 (152 pounds), Kipper Dalton 1-2 (160 pounds), Kyle Hall 1-2 (195 pounds) and Andrew Coberley 1-2 (220 pounds).

McDonald County was at Bentonville, Ark., on Dec. 16 to close out its varsity action for the year before taking off until Jan. 2-3 at the Kinloch Classic in Springfield.

The Mustangs host a junior varsity on Saturday, Dec. 20.
