Kinser Wins Title At Neosho Wrestling Tournament

McDonald County, led by individual champion Josh Kinser at 152 pounds, had five wrestlers earn medals at the 27th Annual Neosho Wrestling Tournament held Saturday at Neosho High School.

Kinser went 3-0 in his pool, winning all three matches by pin, before pinning Austin Nailey, of Branson, in the semifinals. In the championship match, Kinser was to face Cody Rains, of Neosho, but Rains was forced to default due to an injury.

The title for Kinser at 152 pounds, was one of only two weight classes not won by Neosho. The other, 182 pounds, was an open weight for the Wildcats.

Jakob Gerow (113) was the only Mustang to make it to a championship match. Gerow went 3-0 in his pool and then defeated Wyatt Smith 92 in the semifinals.

But Gerow dropped a 9-0 decision to Trenton Young, of Neosho, in the championship match to settle for second place.

The Mustangs' other three medals were for third place, Daniel DeSantiago at 120 pounds, Christopher Dalton at 170 pounds and Bronnie Kinser at 285 pounds.

DeSantiago dropped a 4-1 decision to John Williams in the semifinals before bouncing back to pin Damion Gammons, of Lebanon, in the third place match.

Dalton lost to Chance Branstetter of the Neosho junior varsity 9-7 in the semifinals and then defeated Maxwell Shelton of Lebanon 12-4 for third place.

Bronnie Kinser lost a 3-1 decision to Austin McMillen in the semis and took third place on an injury default.

Other McDonald County results included Landin Foreman, fifth at 126 pounds; Christian Willman, sixth at 132 pounds; Nathan Knadle, seventh at 132 pounds; Keaton Weber, fourth at 138 pounds; Truman Craig, fourth at 145 pounds; Isrrael DeSantiago, fourth at 160 pounds; and, Andrew Coberley, seventh at 220 pounds.

Neosho dominated the team standings, taking first with 422.5 points. Lebanon was second with 229 points followed by Willard with 196, McDonald County 192.5, Neosho JV 173, Springfield Kickapoo 151, Branson 125 and Springfield Glendale 90.

McDonald County's next action is the Carl Junction Tournament set for Dec. 13.

Rogers

McDonald County opened its 2014-2015 season with winning a pair of duals Dec. 2 against Rogers and Rogers Heritage at Rogers Heritage High School.

Against Rogers, the Mustangs claimed a 42-33 win. Recording wins by pin for McDonald County were Daniel DeSantiago (120), Willman (132), Josh Kinser (152), Coberley (220) and Bronnie Kinser (285).

The Mustangs won a pair of decisions. Gerow claimed a 10-5 at 113 pounds while Craig recorded a 7-3 win at 145 pounds. McDonald County's final six points came on a forfeit at 126 pounds to Foreman.

McDonald County claimed a 45-29 win over Rogers Heritage. Recording pins for the Mustangs were Gerow, DeSantiago, Craig, Bronnie Kinser and Dalton (170).

Winning by decision were Foreman (10-7), Weber (8-4) and Josh Kinser (8-2) while Coberley received a forfeit.

Seneca

The Mustangs split duals Dec. 4 at Seneca. McDonald County defeated Diamond 60-18. The Mustangs received eight wins by forfeit while Josh Kinser and Dalton won by pin.

Seneca handed McDonald County a 49-27 loss, the Mustangs' first loss in a dual this season. Winners for the Mustangs were Craig and DeSantiago by pin, Bronnie Kinser by a 3-2 decision and Weber and Gerow by forfeit.
