Jesus Is Our Everlasting Father

Liturgist Steve Powell welcomed the congregation and guests for worship. Announcements for the week were made and the congregation shared in a time of fellowship. Linda Hybl played the prelude to worship as Dakota Stead and Lily Allman lit the altar candles.

Jacob Stanley read scripture from Isaiah 4:1-5 and John 3:16 as he lit the Advent candles. The congregation sang "Emmanuel" and "Silent Night," accompanied by Linda and the orchestra.

Joys were shared for the Sunday school program and the teachers and Tim Kilby expressed heartfelt thanks and joy for the prayers and support of the congregation and community. Joy was shared for those helping in the food ministry. Prayers were requested for those serving in the military and for those families who have sacrificed for our freedom. Pearl Harbor was remembered and prayers offered for those families who lost loved ones during that event. Pastor Mary Lou Toft led the congregation in prayer.

Steve read the scripture lesson, from Isaiah 9:2-4, 6-7.

The music special was "When Hope Came Down," a selection from the choir's Christmas cantata, featuring a beautiful solo by Anna Abercrombie.

Mary Lou's message to the congregation was that Jesus is our everlasting Father, he always cares for us and is always there for us. When we keep our trust and focus on Jesus, the Prince of Peace, we can learn to live as Jesus taught us. He stays with us forever.

The congregation sang "O Little Town Of Bethlehem," followed by Mary Lou's benediction to close the worship service.

At 1 p.m., the choir performed "Born Is The King" at the Southwest City United Methodist Church. The choir is directed by Lin Stuart and accompanied by Linda Hybl. Soloist are Angela Thornton, Anna Abercrombie, Harry Stuart, Casey Stanley, and Larry Hybl. The next performance will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, at the Pineville United Methodist Church, 104 Main Street.
