Commission Transfer Ownership Of 'Old Sheriff's House'

The McDonald County Commission voted unanimously Aug. 18 to transfer ownership of the "Old Sheriff Home Museum" to the McDonald County Historical Society.

The commission sold the building and grounds for $10 upon the approval of a contract of sale by all parties. A contract is expected to be provided the Historical Society within 15 days.

The commission also met with Sheriff Mike Hall regarding his budget for the jail. Hall told the commission he has concerns due to the rise in the inmate population. The commission agreed it might be an issue and they will continue to keep an eye on it for the rest of the year.

Western Commissioner David Holloway updated the other commissioners on the recent de-annexation of roads in the Anderson area. These roads had been considered within the Anderson city limits, but will now fall back into the county road system.

The commission met with the Newton County Commission and discussed East McDonald County Road and County Line Road. These roads are on a shared maintenance basis and the McDonald County Commission has received numerous complaints from McDonald County residents who live on the part of the road under Newton County's responsibility.

Presiding Commissioner Keith Lindquist then attended a meeting of the Seneca Road District and found the road in question was on a list to to be repaired, but he noted the list is long and the road is not planned for any time soon.

The commission will continue to request for maintenance until the issue is resolved, but noted the Seneca Road District's priorities are not the same as McDonald County's.

The commission met with Clyde Keene to discuss a concern on Black Jack Road.
