Two Killed Recently In Separate Wrecks

Two people died from injuries they received in recent wrecks on area roads, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The latest fatality occurred April 12 when Heather M. Garrett, 20, of Rogers, Ark., was killed in a one-car wreck on Route H, one-eighth of a mile west of Pineville. She was pronounced at the scene by Tracy Dowd, McDonald County deputy coroner.

The highway patrol reported Garrett was a passenger in a car driven by Daxton S. Harrison, 21, of Tuttle, Okla., and when Harrison's car dropped off the edge of the road, he over-corrected and struck an embankment.

Both occupants of the car were wearing seat belts, according to the highway patrol's report. Harrison was transported to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin with minor injuries.

Terry A. Engle, 31, of Goodman, was killed April 8 in a one-vehicle wreck. The highway patrol reported that Engle was eastbound on Indian Creek Road, about a mile east of Anderson, when he ran off the road and overturned. Engle was pronounced at the scene by Jason Messley, McDonald County deputy coroner.

A passenger, Marvin J. Whittington, 38, of Neosho, was transported to Freeman Hospital with minor injuries. The highway patrol reported neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

One person was hurt Sunday evening in a one-vehicle wreck on Route KK, 14 miles south of Powell. According to the highway patrol, Michael A. Selee, 25, of Carthage, was northbound when he ran off the road, went down an embankment, overturned and struck a utility pole.

Selee received moderate injuries and was transported to Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark. The patrol said Selee was not wearing a seat belt.

A Noel teenager, 19-year-old Kyler Finley, escaped with minor injuries April 10 after his pickup struck a deer on Route H, three miles west of Pineville. Finley was reported to have been wearing his seat belt. He was taken to free West Hospital by private vehicle.
