Still A Need For A Revival In These Times

It isn't too late. Today is Thursday and revival at First Baptist Church is still welcoming all. We are located on East 5th Street in Pineville, just off the northeast corner of the square.

Sunday morning we celebrated with little Harper Gawthorp as she received her Bible following her baptism. It was a great day for Harper; a great day as young Sebastian Alpezar announced that he has been called to the ministry; it was indeed, a great day for our church. We enjoyed a wonderful special from our choir and wished Marty Novak a great birthday. Many were added to our prayer requests and many heartfelt prayers were shared.

Dr. Larry Crawford introduced the evangelist for our revival -- Brother Rome Wager and his family, from New Mexico. Dr. Crawford shared that Brother Wager is an exceptional evangelist, as finding someone who believes as our church does, that the Bible is infallible are unique and very nearly extinct. Brother Wager, who works with the American Indians in New Mexico, introduced his wife and three of his children (triplets).

He assured us that there is a need for a revival in this strange day and strange time that we live in. We are, he assured us, living in a different kind of time than 1980s when he first started preaching. Our country has changed as one time you could put out the Ten Commandments and the word of God and today it is different and it is sad. It is no longer a popular thing to quote the scripture. He referred to II Corinthians 7:14 as he talked about the separation of church and state and the fact that we are a peculiar, different people. There is one word, he taught, that we should hear and that is the word shout. He referred us to Joshua 6:20 and II Samuel 6:15. Our evangelist reported that he is a man who wrestled and rode broncs and bulls, but it is the message he brings that is worth shouting about. He referred us to I Chronicles 15:28 and Ezra 3:11, confirming that we have reason and a purpose to shout. We should be concerned, he assured us, about our community, our country. As in Zachariah 9:9 and 1 Thess. 4:13-16, as there are times when a shout isn't worth a holler. When it comes to our country, our community, our church family, it is important that we not be reluctant to be heard.

He concluded Sunday morning with, "Lord, Let Me Make A Noise." Tonight, Thursday night, we will begin at 7 p.m. and we are sincerely inviting all to join us on East 5th Street in Pineville.

We shared a potluck dinner following worship service and look forward to our traditional business meeting next Sunday at 6 p.m. Our Friday night Bible study will meet at 6 p.m. Teens will meet Saturday, April 12 (paint ball -- see Associate Pastor Ryan Crawford for more information). We hope you will come join us for our revival as it continues through this week.
