Mustangs Snap Losing Streak

The McDonald County Mustangs scored 11 runs on nine hits to claim an 11-1 win over Rogers (Arkansas) Providence High School Monday at MCHS to snap a three-game losing streak.

A six-run second inning set the tone for the Mustangs. After scoring a run in the first on a single by Cooper Underwood and a bases-loaded walk to Trevor Young, McDonald County put together four hits to go with a walk, a hit batter and a Providence error to record its biggest inning of the season.

Young and Jaime Hanke had two-run singles while Emitt Dalton had an RBI hit to key the inning.

McDonald County added three runs in the fourth, two coming on a double by Mason Hendrix. The Mustangs ended the game in the sixth on the 10-run rule when Dagan Stites drove in a run on a ground out.

Hanke had two hits while Underwood, Dakota Stites, Dalton, Young, Jake Wilkie, Hendrix and Dagan Stites had one each.

Wilkie got the win for the Mustangs, allowing one run on four hits in three innings. Hendrix worked two and a third of one-hit relief while Hanke got the final two outs.

The win improves McDonald County's record to 6-5 heading into this week's Mickey Mantle Wood Bat Tournament in Commerce, Okla.

Cassville

The Cassville Wildcats scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to break a 4-4 tie on the way to a 6-5 win Saturday at MCHS.

The Wildcats took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth before the Mustangs scored four runs on six hits to tie the game. Underwood, Trenton Frazier, Jake Wood, Hanke and Cooper Dill opened the inning with five consecutive singles. Dakota Stites drove in the final two runs of the inning with a one-out single.

Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, McDonald County scored a run on a hit, but stranded the tying run at second when Wilkie's hard-hit line drive was run down by Cassville's Jordan Fisher in the right center-field gap.

Frazier worked the first five innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits. Chance Lemm took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in two innings.

Frazier had three hits and Wood and Hanke had two hits each for the Mustangs while Underwood, Dill, Dalton, Dakota Stites and Evan Acuff each had one.

Neosho

Neosho's Trey Turner allowed two hits in six innings to lead the Wildcats to a 5-1 win over the McDonald County Mustangs Saturday at MCHS.

Turner also led the Neosho offense, leading off the game with a homer and starting a four-run second inning with a single. The big blow of the second inning was a two-run homer by Kris Finley.

Mark Hull took the loss for the Mustangs, allowing five runs on eight hits in seven innings.

The Mustangs scored their only run in the sixth on a single by Dill and a fielder's choice RBI grounder by Dalton.

Dill, Wood and Frazier had the only three hits for the Mustangs, with Wood's coming off a Neosho reliever in the seventh.

Mount Vernon

The Mountaineers scored nine runs on seven hits to hand McDonald County a 9-6 loss April 4 in Mount Vernon.

Dakota Stites took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits in four and two-third innings. Hendrix allowed two runs, but no hits, in an inning and a third to finish.

McDonald County trailed 9-2 entering the seventh before scoring four runs to cut the final margin to 9-6.Dalton started the uprising with a leadoff single. Acuff and Dagan Stites followed with back-to-back doubles before Young doubled with two out and Dill singled for the final run.

Acuff had two hits while Underwood, Young, Hanke, Dill, Dalton and Dagan Stites had one each.

Seneca

Hull pitched six innings of three-hit ball and Lemm came in to pitch the seventh for the save to lead the Mustangs to a 5-2 win April 1 over the Seneca Indians.

Seneca scored a run in the second on a hit and and an error and another in the fifth on a pair of singles.

McDonald County took control of the game early, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Underwood singled and stole second before Wood walked. Both runners scored on a triple by Hanke. Dalton drove in Hanke with a two-out single for the final run of the inning.

In the fourth, McDonald County scored a pair of runs on an error, a hit by pitch and singles by Underwood and Young and a sacrifice fly by Wood.

Underwood and Hanke had two hits while Young and Dalton had one to lead the Mustang offense.
