Holy Spirit Gives Us The Ability To Proclaim Jesus’ Message Of Salvation
Thursday, May 23, 2013
Worship services began with a welcome to the congregation and guests from Robert Stauber. Announcements for the week were made and a wedding anniversary was celebrated for Larry and Linda Hybl. The congregation shared in a time of fellowship, followed by Lily Allman and Megan Elwood lighting the altar candles as Patti Carroll played the prelude to worship.
Robert led the congregation in a responsive reading, followed by the congregation singing “Spirit Of The Living God,” accompanied by Patti and the orchestra.
Trisha Dowd was recognized by Pastor Mary Lou Toft for her graduation from McDonald County High School and was presented with an inscribed Holy Bible from the church.
Joys were shared by Kelly Elwood, who thanked all for their prayers and healing. Lou Fischer shared her continuing health improvement and Faye Davis shared her joy for granddaughter Paisley’s feeding tube removal. Faye also thanked all who helped with the eighth grade breakfast. Prayer was requested for Barbara Cory’s cousin, Ray and Kathy Adair’s daughter-in-law and for Faye’s niece, Sylvia. Prayer for the victims of the recent tornado outbreaks was requested, followed by Mary Lou leading the congregation in prayer.
Robert read the scripture lesson, from Acts 2:1-21.
Casey Stanley gave a moving solo performance of the song “Blessings” for the music special.
In her children’s message, Mary Lou talked of the church’s birthday, which we celebrate as the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus’ followers.
Mary Lou’s message to the congregation was about how the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to proclaim Jesus’ message of salvation. The Holy Spirit gives us the power we need, our faith in God and our willingness to respond to God’s call enable the revival of our spirits to witness to others.
The congregation sang “Spirit Song,” followed by Mary Lou’s benediction which closed the service.
