Sugar Creek Gobblers Night Gig A Success

Thursday, November 8, 2012

The Sugar Creek Gobblers’ recent third annual Night Gig was a great time for the youngsters who participated, especially those who had never participated in this long-time Ozark tradition.

As always, lots of whoops and hollering echoed up and down the river as the young outdoorsmen experienced their turn at trying to get a fi sh.

Poor fishing conditions resulted in few fish being captured, however plenty of fish and potatoes were cooked before the participants took their turn in the boat. Nobody went home hungry and a brilliant campfire prepared by a couple of the boys before dark kept everyone warm.

A special thanks to Frank Loncarich and Rob Walker for assisting with the event. Loncarich is the regional biologist for the Missouri Department of Conservation and spoke about how the department is focused on improving and gaining outdoor opportunities for the present and future residents of Missouri.

Walker did an outstanding job of providing the boat, gear and taking the youth up and down the river and teaching them how to gig.
