Robert Stauber greeted the congregation for worship and made announcements for the week. The congregation greeted each other in a time of fellowship. Alec Laughlin and Cainnon Britton served as acolytes, lighting the altar candles, as Coradell Alexander played “The Ninety and Nine” on the piano for the prelude to worship.
Robert led the congregation in the call to worship responsive reading, followed by the congregation singing the hymn “We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations.” Pastor David Howlett led the congregationin prayer. Robert read the scripture lessons from 2 Kings 5:1-14 and Luke 10: 1-3.
The adult choir, directed by Linda, sang “The Heart Of Worship” for the music special.
In his message to the children, David used a suitcase to talk with the children about packing clothing for a trip. In the scripture lesson from Luke, Jesus had sent His disciples ahead to villages and told them not to take anythingextra with them. We are to trust what God says and tell others about Jesus.
David’s message to the congregation was from 2 Kings. Naaman was a powerful commander of the army of Aram and also a leper. A young Israeli girl, who had been captured and given to Naaman’s wife as a maid, told Naaman’s wife that a prophet in Samaria could heal him of leprosy. Naaman went to the prophet Elisha, but felt that he had been shown a lack of respect and did not want to do as Elisha directed. After listening to the counsel of hisservants, he did as directed by Elisha and was healed of leprosy. David’s message from this scripture was that God’s voice does not come to us from the mighty and powerful people in our world, but from the work of servants. We are to be servants to others and to listen to God’s voice and do His will.
David introduced Ramon and Sabrina Velasquez, who spoke of their ministry of bringing the story of Jesus to the Latino community in Noel. Ramon and Sabrina will be leading Spanish language Bible study and worshipservices on Saturday afternoons in the church sanctuary.
Prayer requests included Cassie’s mother; Ruby Flynn; Lynn Howerton’s daughter, Angela; Opal Hatfi eld’s daughter, Debbie; a person lifted up by Debbie Powell; Gary Davis; and Carolyn Bennett. We prayed for all those suff ering from the earthquake in Haiti. We also prayed for the Rev. David and Patty Fitzmaurice; and the people and ministries of the Lanagan Baptist Church.
The congregation sang the hymn “Here I Am, Lord,”followed by David’s benediction, to close the worship service.
